Buhari Not Gaining Anything, Won’t Accept Third-term Offer – Ex-envoy
A former Nigerian Ambassador to Malaysia during the administration of President Olusegun Obasanjo, Yerima Abdullahi, has said the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), had no desire to stay in office beyond 2023.

Abdullahi, said Buhari has been doing “a thankless job” as Nigerian leader, was a respecter of the constitution.

He spoke to one of our correspondents in an interview in Gombe, on Wednesday.

Abdullahi further said “The people should be more realistic and stop diverting the attention of the president, hoping that he will concentrate on mainly responding to such.

“I’m glad he is not losing concentration. Buhari has got two years to go. He has said he is not going to ask for a third term. No, I won’t ask him to seek an additional term.”

“However, whether I ask him he will not, I know him enough to know he will not want it. What is he gaining?”

Earlier, the All Progressives Congress denied claims by the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, that the President was nursing a self-succession plan.

National Secretary, APC Caretaker/Extraordinary Convention Planning Committee, Sen. John James Akpanudoehede, said this in a statement in Abuja, on Wednesday.

He wrote, “Unlike the opposition, we are a disciplined party. PDP is just being haunted by its past. You will recall the inglorious third term agenda while PDP was in power. So, it is easy to accuse APC now.

“After our congresses and the National Convention, we will shock them by bringing a consensus and an agreeable candidate that will fly the flag of the party come 2023. APC has no 3rd term agenda like PDP.

“What we are doing now is to stabilize the party and not allow individual ambitions to derail the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.”

Recall the PDP had in a statement titled, ‘Buhari Presidency’s 2023 Comments Smirks of Self- Succession Plot,’ signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, on Tuesday, accused the President of plotting to stay in office beyond his constitutionally allowed two terms in office by 2023.

He said, “Nigerians were jolted when President Buhari’s spokesman, Garba Shehu, publicly announced in Daura, Mr President’s hometown, that President Buhari ‘constitutes a political obstacle’ which those who seek to succeed him, come 2023, cannot dismantle.”
